PRIMARY FUNCTION: Assist instructor in the delivery and operation of the Cosmetology program, including hands-on student support, salon services, client interactions, and daily operations of the student salon, while maintaining high standards of safety, sanitation, and customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist instructor in the delivery of the Cosmetology program, including hands-on support in the classroom and salon instruction, while helping maintain compliance with applicable Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology regulations, licensing requirements, and district policies.
- Support daily operations of the student salon, including client services, scheduling, reception, and customer interactions.
- Supervise and assist students in salon activities, reinforcing safety, sanitation, professionalism, and industry standards.
- Assist students with hair, skin, and nail services under instructor supervision.
- Monitor and document student salon/clinical hours, and practical skill completion as required for State Board eligibility.
- Serve as a substitute instructor in the absence of full-time instructor, as needed.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe salon, classroom, and lab environment.
- Monitor proper use, handling, cleaning, disinfection, and storage of tools, equipment, and products.
- Enforce safety procedures and ensure appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with inventory and ordering of salon products, supplies, and equipment under instructor guidance.
- Provide excellent customer service to students, clients, staff, and visitors.
- Assist with salon promotions, events, and special functions as assigned.
- Work evenings or special events as required.
- Transport students using school vehicles as required, following all safety and school policies.
- Support CTSO programs, including SkillsUSA, Autry Professional Representatives (APR), First Robotics, and other student activities.
- Assist with program accreditation, evaluations, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Current Oklahoma Cosmetology License required. Current Oklahoma Master Instructor License in Cosmetology required, or ability to obtain prior to employment.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one to three years of experience in cosmetology is required. Experience working in a salon, spa, educational, or instructional setting preferred. Experience working with students, trainees, or apprentices preferred.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of cosmetology techniques, salon operations, and industry standards.
- Ability to assist with classroom, laboratory, and salon instruction in a licensed training environment.
- Knowledge of sanitation, infection control, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong organizational skills, including maintaining records and tracking student hours and competencies.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Must maintain confidentiality of all student and organizational records in compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and applicable policies.

- Regularly required to stand and move throughout the classroom, salon, and laboratory environment.
- Frequently required to use hands and arms to demonstrate cosmetology techniques and assist students.

- Visual ability to observe student performance, client services, and sanitation practices, with or without corrective lenses.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, clients, staff, and visitors.
- Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed primarily in a classroom, salon, and laboratory training environment.
- Requires regular interaction with students, clients, staff, and visitors.
- Exposure to salon products, chemicals, disinfectants, and related odors commonly found in the cosmetology industry.
- Work involves active supervision of students in a hands-on learning environment.
- Requires use of salon equipment, tools, instructional technology, and point-of-sale systems.
- Moderate noise levels may be present due to salon operations and classroom activities.
- Work may involve moderate stress related to student supervision, customer service expectations, compliance requirements, and program deadlines.
- Perform effectively under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or situations in which working with speed and sustained attention are critical aspects of the job.
